KJV

10:21  Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

10:21  Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

"take up the cross"
"Take up the Cross???" That wouldn't enter the mind of  "liberated" Christians. They want to live and be happy and their actions not restricted by such an "outdated" concept - "just do what feels good" seems to be their motto. The NIV editors are aware of such sentiments and have removed these "objectionable" words so as not to burden Christians or alienate New Agers.
